Mairye United was formed in 1956 by a group of workers who wanted a team to represent the village on Sundays. The first pitch was a cleared field beside the trading centre; today the club plays its home games at Mairye Grounds.
The club runs a first team, a reserve side and a youth programme, and is run by volunteers from the community with support from local businesses. Membership is open to everyone.
